4 laidback stops along the Yorke Peninsula

I had 2 days to explore the Yorke Peninsula and decided to visit a few lesser-known and laidback stops. My stay at the Kadina Village Motel was great. The room was cozy, and clean and the service was fantastic! I booked a room last minute, and the manager included a complimentary bottle of white wine.

Ardrossan Heritage Museum

The quaint town of Ardrossan, on the eastern coast of the Yorke Peninsula is our first stop. The Ardrossan Bakery offers a tasty-looking selection of pies, pastries and coffee. Coffee in hand, head on over to the Ardrossan Heritage Museum. This was unlike any other museum I’d visited in the past. It’s set in a late 19th-century factory and packed with the town’s rich history of agricultural machinery. You can wander among the machines from the past and read about the innovations of the time. Miniature models showcase how machines were operated.

Also, take some time to read about the unusual event of 7 sperm whales getting stranded near Ardrossan in 2014. Side note – an 8th Whale was spotted near the beach and pushed out to deeper water by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources. The spot of the whale beaching is a short drive from the museum at the Sperm Whale Memorial on Parara Beach.

Edithburgh Tidal Pool

This tidal pool is a relaxing place to swim. It is especially good for families because of its shallow man-made ocean pool. Part of the Yorke Peninsula walking trail runs along the ocean side here and offers a fantastic view of the crystal clear waters. Even on a warm day, it was great walking along the track with the cool ocean breeze.

Pink Lake Yorketown

After lunch stop at the Yorketown Pink Lake and take in some spectacular views. The colour of the lake is the brightest shade of pink during spring & summer months.

The Swimming Centre – Point Turton

This was a great spot for some snorkelling. Once you’re down at the beach, there is a little rock path that takes you a little way out into the ocean. From the end of this path, you can jump into the water, and swim to the right and back (towards the shore) over a large patch of rocks and sea moss. You’ll end up in a shallow pool where you can catch a glimpse of some fish. If you’re lucky like I was you may even see my stripped friend below. I have awful underwater pictures, but the swimming centre is most definitely a secluded, beautiful spot on the Yorke Peninsula for some snorkelling.

And that’s a wrap on 4 laidback spots to visit along the Yorke Peninsula. Spread these visits across 2 days or even start early to cover them all in a day. If you have a couple more days, the Innes National Park is a must-visit spot for beautiful beaches and bushwalks.
